Hamamatsu, Japan, September 16, 2022 – Roland DG Corporation (Headquarter: Hamamatsu, Shizuoka; President, Representative Director: Kohei Tanabe), a global manufacturer and distributor of advertising and signage inkjet printers, has established a joint venture company engaged in binder-jet 3D printer business in China.
* Binder-jet printing: A 3D printing methodology that jets liquid binders (glues) through print head nozzles on powder materials to create modelled objects.
Together with our partners AMSKY, Jingdezhen Changnan New Area Zhongxi Investment Partnership, and AGC Ceramics Co, Ltd. (“AGCC”), we have established CERAWEI TECHNOLOGY CO. LTD in Jingdezhen city in China. The joint venture company produces ceramic binder-jet 3D printers, ceramic products, and supplies and operates education and experience centers. Through partnerships with AMSKY and AGCC, we will develop this new market in China to expand the applications of our technology.
Jingdezhen city is located in northeastern Jiangxi province of China and is one of the leading ceramic and pottery production areas with more than 1,000 years of history. Currently, most of these intricate and delicate shaped ceramics are hand crafted by traditional artisans, and mass production has been a challenge. In addition, succession is becoming a serious problem, given the enormous amount of time to learn the skills of traditional craftsmen. We aim to solve these issues and contribute to the realization of a more prosperous society by introducing this 3D printing technology that is expected to revolutionize the history of Chinese ceramics.
Binder-jet 3D printers can output fine hollowed-out ceramic 3D modeling objects that cannot be produced by milling machines. Color expression is also possible by applying glaze to the surface. In addition to revolutionizing ceramics, we believe that this technology can be used for a wide range of industrial applications such as molds, and can be expanded into creative fields such as architecture, design, and art.
